From the series Florascopic 1

Transforming images of flowers and plants found in the urban environment into striking kaleidoscopic images.

The source for my inspiration comes from my combined love of flowers, plants, travel and architecture.  Having spent many years traveling the world, I love nothing more than meandering through the streets and urban environments of the cities and towns I’ve travelled to.

The original idea for Florascopic came from my time in living in San Francisco where I was inspired by the beautiful gardens of Pacific Heights and the tantalising glimpses afforded of them behind the gates, stone walls and high fences of this most affluent and private suburb. Often small micro gardens of plants and flowers were displayed at the entrances to the grand properties, visually inviting you in but with the rest of the garden out of view – like a postcard from an idyllic place that is forever out of reach.

This group of images are representative of my time in San Francisco and onward to New York City and London.

The work speaks to the importance of nature in a modern urban environment and contains influences from Kirsten’s childhood, along with influences from nature, architecture (an architect’s daughter) and indeed her travels.
